The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) and the University of New Mexico (UNM) in Albuquerque, NM, invite applications for the position of Chief, Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at NMVAHCS. The ideal candidate is an accomplished physician with a strong background in clinical medicine and leadership experience in advancing clinical, educational and research missions. The Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine is an integral component of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at UNM with responsibility for teaching fellows, residents and medical students. The Section has a record of innovative extramurally funded bench and clinical research. NMVAHCS will be constructing a new 8-bed Sleep Laboratory this year to provide a state-of-the-art resource for advancing sleep medicine. The Directors of Clinical Operations, the Medical Intensive Care Unit and the Sleep Laboratory report to the Section Chief. The Chief will provide mentorship and serve as a role model of excellence in scholarship. Professorial appointment will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Compensation includes an excellent benefits package. In addition, investigators with a funded research program may be eligible for a start-up package.
This position also carries faculty membership at UNM.

- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
