Facility Description: Alaska largest Outpatient Surgery Center is looking for a focused, detailed oriented business office-insurance verification clerk with a superb customer service history to come join our team and grow with us.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

Provide support to the facility by performing specific or various business office functions as assigned. These functions are to include (but not limited to): Medical Records, Admissions/Intake, and Billing, Collections, Insurance Verification, Clinical Logs and other duties as assigned.

As a representative of Surgical Care Affiliates, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct effect on the Facility’s image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, families, physicians, referral sources, affiliating schools, visitors, volunteers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork, which is congruent with Facility standards and guidelines to promote positive relations.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Possess basic knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Possess knowledge of health insurance billing.

  • Possess knowledge of typing, word processing, spreadsheet and computer billing systems.

  • Possess accurate judgment, especially handling insurance claims and dealing with patient accounts.

  • Versatile and willing to coordinate with and participate in, when necessary, all other aspects of the Business Office.

  • Possess strong initiative to get daily work finished and processed.

  • Has ability to communicate effectively with patient, physicians and other staff members.

  • Is courteous, understanding and sympathetic toward patients, physicians and others.

  • Maintains regular attendance.

  • Ability to handle confidential information.

  • Ability to set priorities and work independently.

  • Ability to interact in a positive manner and to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, supervisor and other facility employees.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Ability to enter data into computer, files large amounts of paper, and use office equipment.

  • Ability to use discretion in dealing with the public.


  • The candidate considered will have an excellent customer service background working with the public and Physicians’ offices.

  • 2 years previous medical office experience is required.

  • The candidate considered will have knowledge of insurance benefits, pre-authorization, and billing processes.

  • Be able and willing to work in a fast paced environment
