HSBC Talent Manager in Arlington Heights, Illinois

Responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the Compliance Professional Development Program to align with the strategic direction of the US Compliance Function.

Core components of the Compliance Professional Development Program include: (i) the Employee Rotational Program (ii) the Employee Reward and Recognition Program; (iii) the Knowledge, Skills & Capabilities Assessment Programs (iv) and Career Development Planning. The position requires close collaboration with all teams in the Compliance function, including alignment with the Compliance Training and Outreach team responsible for the development of the Compliance employee training programs. The role also partners with HNAH Talent Management and Group Human Resource.

The position plays a critical role in achieving and sustaining the Compliance organization’s Human Capital goal and regulatory expectation of increasing the depth and breadth of skill and bench-strength throughout the Compliance organization.

  • Develop and manage the Compliance Employee Rotational Program, resulting in a ready pipeline of well-rounded and skilled Compliance professionals
  • Implement and manage Compliance Employee Reward and Recognition Programs
  • Develop and manage sustainable Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities Assessment Programs that inform the development and maintenance of the Compliance employee training programs and assist with career development guidance and opportunities for Compliance employees
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Compliance organization in providing assistance, advice and guidance to Compliance employees regarding participation in the North America mentoring program

  • Interfaces with Senior Leadership and Management teams within Compliance, North America and Group Human Resource

  • Initiatives support the professional development and succession of all US Compliance employees

    Leadership & Teamwork

  • Leads and manages activities, initiatives and programs involving Compliance employee professional development

  • Works effectively both individually and as a part of a larger team, to drive and execute projects and deliverables

    Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators

  • Implement the Group compliance policy locally by managing compliance risk in liaison with the Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources and training, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators
  • Complete other responsibilities, as assigned
    Major Challenges

  • The Compliance Professional Development Office is new to the Function, and this role will be critical to the development of professional development program initiatives, communications and implementations. Multiple, sustainable programs are needed that meet the strategic needs of the Compliance organization

  • Continued assessment of stakeholder needs and ability to respond with innovative solutions as efficiently, successfully and quickly as possible
  • Effective metrics must be determined to measure the performance of the initiatives developed within the Compliance Professional Development Office, as appropriate

    Role Context

  • As a new office and new role, the environment is one of building new programs which are sustainable and meet the demands and needs of a very large, diverse Compliance organization

  • This role is expected to provide SME consultation and advice on all areas pertaining to Professional Development for the entire Compliance organization
  • This role has the authority to act independently utilizing knowledge and information to pro-actively solve issues and deliver effective solutions in an efficient manner

    Management of Risk

  • Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues

  • Promotes an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand and values

    Observation of Internal Controls

  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in HR, professional development, organizational development, or similar

  • Minimum of Bachelors degree in HR, education, communications, organizational development, or similar
  • Strong diplomacy, interpersonal, influencing and communication skills required
  • Must be able to work independently in a leadership role as well as within a larger multi-discipline team in an ever changing and complex environment
  • Must have strong decision-making skills and be a lateral thinker
  • Good planning and project management skills preferred
  • Must have professional development, rotational program, capability assessment, career development experience
  • Internal HSBC experience and familiarity with Compliance
  • Proficiency with personal computers, Microsoft office products such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel
