Food Service Supervisor

This position is located in Kabul and is contingent upon position availability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Food Service Supervisor is the chief advisor to the DPM on matters pertaining to the overall operation of the dining facilities (DFAC)

  • Will have the day-to-day oversight of the catering subcontractor to ensure proper preparation of food and service to customers are maintained at the highest level

  • Will be responsible for the implementation of all administrative procedures relative to the safe and efficient operation of the dining facilities and reporting to the DPM on any irregularities or deficiencies beyond his control.

  • Assists in supervising the operation of a dining room or food service unit, or supervises the operation of a smaller unit.

  • Assists in planning work schedules and assigning food service personnel duties.

  • Assists in training and supervising personnel in preparing meals, arranging foods, and serving customers.

  • May participate in the cooking and serving of food.

  • Assists in preparation of facilities and serving of foods for special wants such as buffets.

  • Supervises cleaning of facilities and equipment; inspects dining rooms and equipment for cleanliness.

  • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of foods and their preparation and of the use and care of dishes, implements, and kitchen utensils.

  • Knowledge of health hazards relating to food preparation and service, and of effective precautionary measures.

  • Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and patrons of the food service unit.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a food service discipline

  • 6 to 8 years’ experience serving on a large scale dining facility such as the military or school environments

  • Two years’ experience in nutrition and meal planning, preferred

  • Demonstrated experience managing food services at multiple locations.

  • Experience with contingency planning (what does this really mean)

  • Past Experience working in fast paced dynamic environment

  • Ability to perform in austere conditions

  • Ability to be medically cleared to perform on contract

  • Ability to obtain a Moderate Risk Public Trust Certificate.
