Business Relations Director, Multiple Sclerosis

Territory: West Zone

In this field based position, the Business Relations Director will be responsible for successfully hiring and leading a Business Relations Manager (BRM) team to become the field subject matter expert relating to billing, coding, procurement, contracting and access issues for an infused product for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) throughout the defined territory. Within a highly competitive marketplace, the Director will be called upon to successfully lead and motivate their Team to execute the National BRM strategy, supporting the initiatives set forth in the business plan. The Director, Business Relations West, reports to the Senior Director, Business Relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of BRMs in the development of account business plans and account specific tactics that optimize business performance inclusive of recruitment, hiring and training of an accomplished team of BRM’s

  • Responsible for the oversight of all aspects of business relations as BRMs will be the subject matter experts on product procurement, Buy & Bill processes, billing and coding, contracting, financial assistance offerings from MS One to One, access, medical policy and other business related issues

  • Develop regional business plans to support overall sales performance, expectations and available resources, including Regional and Territory strategies and tactics, as well as resource allocation

  • Be an expert in the billing, coding, contracting and procurement, which affects current product reimbursement and financial assistance offerings from Patient and Provider Services

  • Spend the majority of your time in the field with Business Relations Managers in order to support individual development, as well as provide coaching, direction and feedback

  • Plan, design and implement territory alignment to support driving overall performance

  • Establish positive working relationships with all key customer segments (internal and external)

  • Manage Medicare Contractor coverage, account management efforts and regional advocacy development to ensure appropriate coverage and reimbursement for Lemtrada

  • Develop and maintain relationships with MAC Medical Directors, Medical Policy Staff and Advisory Committee members to ensure Lemtrada access

  • Monitors Commercial and Medicaid communications on coverage, coding and payment

  • Lead the development, review and implementation of Reimbursement programs and tools that strengthens reimbursement support services, align with Marketing messages and support sales performance within the MS market

  • Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures in order to coordinate local market activities with Genzyme Account Teams for removing reimbursement obstacles and gain coverage for MS products in a proactive manner

  • Demonstrate expertise on reimbursement and coverage issues within MS and maintains open lines of communication with Sales Management Teams, Policy, Government Affairs, and brands teams by providing them with timely and actionable information relating to key strategic customers and the business environment

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively and transversally with other Regional Sales Directors, Key Accounts field team, brand marketing, payer marketing, market access teams, medical affairs and field teams, senior management and all other departments necessary in order to facilitate achievement of sales objectives

  • Partner closely with the TLL and ISM teams to ensure synergy on our accounts


Basic Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree required, preferably in life science or business. MBA a plus

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry

  • 4-7 years pharmaceutical/biotech business relations experience, including specialty sales, with demonstrated successful results

  • Minimum of 3-5 years Field Management experience or equivalent leadership experience, with documented achievements

  • Ability to travel to meetings/trainings/programs as necessary - additional travel may be required within the assigned territory

  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS experience strongly preferred

  • MS or Oncology physician reimbursement experience strongly preferred

  • Must be an energetic, driven dynamic leader

  • Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, communication and leadership skills required

  • Strong understanding and experience working to ensure access for infused products, especially within a buy and bill model

  • Significant experience and understanding of the ever changing payer environment and its impact on access of products administered in a healthcare setting

  • Demonstrated success working in a matrix environment (sales, market access, customer service, medical affairs, marketing)

  • Ability to quickly assemble and develop a high performing experienced team

  • Must achieve and maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory, legal, and operational rules and procedures, and require the same of his/her team

  • Must be willing to travel up to 75-80% #LI-GZ
