The Augusta Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is a two-division Medical Center that provides tertiary care in medicine, surgery, neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, and spinal cord injury. Functional Statement Title: Physician - Geriatrics Location of position: Uptown, Geriatrics Service Line

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve to admit, provide attending medical care, discharge, run IDT meetings, and supervise PA's.

  • Serve on the CLC screening committee and work closely with the consult liaison in coordinating admissions to CLC.

  • Consult inpatient services at the downtown division.

  • Educate residents rotating from GRU (Georgia Regents University) and DDEAMC (Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center), the local military medical center.

  • Supervise and collaborate with HBPC.

  • Attending on downtown wards.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:Candidates must meet all the requirements identified in the VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G2, Physician Qualification Standards Citizenship: U.S Citizenship is required (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens). Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency: Applicants appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board eligible or board certified in Hospice/Palliative care or Geriatrics preferred.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), light lifting (under 15 pounds), moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), pushing 4 hours, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking 2 hours, standing 8 hours, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid permitted), mental and emotional stability.
