The Augusta Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is a two-division Medical Center that provides tertiary care in medicine, surgery, neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, and spinal cord injury. Work Schedule: Various Tours to include Weekends and Holidays
Location of position: Nursing Service Line (Cardiac Cath Lab)
The Cardiac Catheterization nurse is accountable to the Nurse Manager and responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to Cardiac Catheterization Lab patients in either a chronic unit setting or an acute intensive care unit setting. Both areas require the nurse to provide treatment utilizing the nursing process, according to the written procedures and policies of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab Suite. Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1) Utilizes the nursing process in managing, developing, implementing and evaluating each patient's individual plan of care with the interdisciplinary team to attain specific clinical outcomes. 2) Continuously monitors the environment for potential and/or actual safety hazards. 3) Assures adherence to strict infection control practices by all personnel. 4) Guides and directs patient care delivery of support personnel. Provides input for staff evaluation to rating official(s). 5) Participates in and initiates Quality Assessment and Improvement program activities as applicable to the clinical area. 6) Promotes collaborative practice to provide and expedite quality patient care along the health care continuum; acts as patient advocate to assure appropriateness and quality of care. 7) Assesses learning needs of patients and staff and implements appropriate teaching plans. 8) Initiates and/or participates in studies pertaining to the care setting. 9) Maintains and upgrades own knowledge base and skills regarding critical care nursing and applies this knowledge to nursing practice. 10) Provides patient care in cost-effective manner. 11) Prepares and assists with all Cardiac Catheterization Lab procedures, administering moderate sedation, performance of pre-and post-procedure patient assessments, care and processing of medical equipment, provide assessment, patient observation, as well as providing teaching and care to patients and families.

Candidates must meet all the requirements identified in the VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G6, Nurse Qualification Standards http://vaww1.va.gov/ohrm/HRLibrary/Dir-Policy.htm
(1) U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. (2) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) (3) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. (4) Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement may be required. (5) RN's appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience. Applicant's successful nursing practice and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.
Preferred Experience: At least one year of Cardiac Cath experience; Moderate sedation and ICU experience preferred.
