Appliance Mechanic


Appliance Mechanic (FN): This is a trade’s position, based at the Bagdad Diplomatic Support Center (BDSC), Iraq and will be associated with the Operations and Maintenance section. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing BDSC appliance requirements. This position reports to the BDSC Appliance Mechanic Lead and/or BDSC Appliance Supervisor. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.


DUTIES: - Become proficient in the use and completion of work orders (WO) produced by the Work Orders for Windows (WOW) database. - Develop a comprehensive knowledge of appliance maintenance and repairs tasks, including: - Commercial and residential appliance operations and maintenance, including refrigerators, stoves, convection and microwave ovens, dishwashers, clothes washers and dryers and reefer units - Be able to read and understand electrical schematics. - Understand control wiring. - Understand preventive maintenance concepts. - Be able to work safely in a fast paced team environment. - Soldering of copper tubing. - Knowledge to use hand tools safely and properly. - Drive a service truck (must have a valid driver’s license). - Prepare and submit detailed reports on appliance projects for the Appliance Supervisor. - Perform additional duties as assigned by the Appliance Mechanic Lead and/or Appliance Supervisor.


REQUIRED: - Education: A high school diploma (or GED). A vocational diploma in Appliance Maintenance or completion of an Apprentice program with a Journeyman certificate is preferred. - Security Vetting: Already possess a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or be able to obtain a favorable MRPT certification prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification level for the duration of the contract. - Language Skills: Strong, professional, oral and written English communication skills. - Citizenship: US Citizenship is not required for this position. - Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination. - Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license from Home of Record (HOR) DESIRED: - Relevant overseas contract experience. - Universal EPA license. - Electronics certification. OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of all principles and processes involved in supporting contract responsibilities at an overseas facility. - Experience providing excellent customer services. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules. - Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective. - Excellent organizational and time management skills. - Expert computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel. - Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team. - Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change. - Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.
