General Maintenance Technician
This is a trade's position, based at the Baghdad Embassy Compound (BEC), Baghdad, Iraq and will be associated with Site Services Operation. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing BEC general maintenance in Residential Operations for remodeling or renovation projects, this position reports to the BEC Residential Operations Supervisor, the duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive. DUTIES: - Report to supervisor regarding work completed referring unusual technical or personnel issues to the supervisor - Assist supervisor in scheduling work and determining needs for equipment and supplies to meet mission - Provide input to performance reviews; monitor work of assigned crew members - Perform a variety of skilled work in the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment; prioritize, schedule, and coordinate the work of assigned by Supervisor and accomplish a wide variety of duties related to maintenance technician duties - Construct, rebuild and repair facilities including various woodand metal structures, equipment and furniture; prepare surfaces for painting and varnishing and apply surface coverings as required - Assure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable building codes, regulations and requirements - Operate a variety of equipment and machines including saws, drill presses and various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; properly maintain tools and equipment on a daily basis for a safe working condition - Perform a variety of skilled building maintenance including repairs to doors, windows, roofs and other building parts; construct or assemble furniture and other wood and metal structures as required - Maintain various records related to carpentry, material inventories and work orders - Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE OF: - Scheduling, laying out and assigning work. - Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies. - Basic record-keeping techniques. - Operation of trade tools, equipment, materials, methods and techniques used in skilled and general maintenance and repair for the following below - Concrete and masonry, constructing concrete wooden forms - Drywall, windows, ceiling’s and doors - Painting - Moving and transporting supplies - General shop and work site maintenance - Vehicle operations ABILITY TO: - Perform a wide variety of skilled journey-level work in the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment - Prioritize and schedule, assigned work issued by the carpentry supervisor - Train and provide work direction to assigned personnel in the performance of a wide variety of duties related to the building trades - Interpret, explain and apply codes, rules and regulations involved in assigned maintenance activities - Interpret blueprints, shop drawings, sketches and work orders to others or as required - Understand and follow oral and written directions - Communicate effectively both orally and in writing - Work independently with little to no supervision direction - Meet schedules and time lines - Maintain routine department records - Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff members and others departments - Operate various types of vehicles to perform duties - Knowledge of all principles and processes involved in supporting contract responsibilities at an overseas facility - Experience providing excellent customer services - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules - Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective - Knowledge of computer, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel - Prepare and submit detailed reports on carpentry projects for the Carpentry Supervisor - Lift heavy objects EXPERIENCE: - The General Maintenance Technician must have a minimum of four years compatible maintenance experience at the Journeyman level, in an overseas environment. - Relevant overseas contract experience - Experience working with PAE REQUIRED: - Education: A high school diploma (or GED). A vocational diploma in construction or completion of an Apprentice program with a Journeyman certificate is preferred. - Security Vetting: Ability to obtain a favorable MRPT certification prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification level for the duration of the contract - Language Skills: Strong, professional, oral and written English communication skills - Citizenship: US Citizenship is not required for this position - Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination - Driver’s License: Driver’s License from Home of Record (HOR)
