Electronic Tech III In-Air

Initial training will be provided in West Palm Beach, FL. Ultimately, this position is located on Andros Island in the Bahamas.


The Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission is to provide Naval Warfare Centers, the Fleet, and other customers with accurate undersea, surface, and in-air three-dimensional tracking data and other unique Atlantic test facilities. In support of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and Fleet readiness assessment and training. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport's largest single team project, providing both deep and shallow water test and training environments.

In-Air Systems Electronic Technician III personnel operate and maintain Atlantic Underwater Test and Evaluation Center In-Air and support systems. The in-air systems are located at Site 2 which is approximately 20 miles from the main base and is accessible by road. In addition to the preceding, personnel chosen for these positions reside at Site 2 and in addition to their principal duties perform ancillary site duties as required.


  • Troubleshoot, repair, test and operate the In-Air Systems installed in support of AUTEC Range and Navy ship requirements.

  • Perform detailed testing procedures to diagnose causes of equipment malfunction.

  • Disassemble components and trace circuit continuity through states of equipment.

  • Repair circuit wiring and replace faulty major components and individual parts.

  • Operate and test repaired equipment with common and specialized hand tools, measuring instruments and testing devices to ensure proper operation.

  • Perform authorized modifications, preventative maintenance, and final testing of equipment.

  • Schedules and provides input to performance assessments of junior technicians.

  • Plans and schedules Maintenance Program for equipment and systems including AUTEC’S LATR, ASHTECH, EWTS, AS3, Link 16 and Radar Systems.

  • Performs analysis of equipment and systems performance on a daily basis.

  • Identifies problems, determines and initiates action to resolve and assist junior technicians with equipment/systems repair.

  • Performs administrative record keeping and spare inventories for maintenance of assigned systems.

  • Assist in Operational Acceptance Testing.

  • Works shifts as required.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


  • Associate Degree in electronic discipline or equivalent Military training.

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in electronics preventive, corrective and installation. techniques including solving complex problems by interpreting manufacturer’s manuals or similar documents.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of cumulative specialized experience in RF Range Systems maintenance and operation such as Radar, GPS, Threat Simulation or similar equipment is required.

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting/diagnostic skills.

  • Advanced digital and analog troubleshooting skills.

  • Hands-on use of common RF test equipment in a field environment.

  • Able to work independently and without close supervision.

  • Able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds of equipment.

  • Physical ability to reach above the shoulders and climb using legs and arms to perform tasks and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Normal color vision.

  • Ability to assist lower level staff in equipment and systems repair.

  • Present neat, professional appearance to work in military environment.

  • This position requires the individual to be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance; US Citizenship is required

  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.

  • Valid Driver’s License and US passport will be required.
