Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility, Belcourt, North Dakota. The primary purpose of this position is responsible for meeting established Unit Standards of Nursing Practice; managing all assigned personnel, supplies and equipment on the unit, and for promoting team work with physicians and personnel of other departments at the Service Unit. This position will report to the Acute Care Nurse Manager. The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3. Assesses physical, psychosocial, educational and discharge needs.
Evaluates effectiveness of plan of care and modifies as needed.
Coordinates with other health care disciplines and departments to meet identified patient care needs.
Designs, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive teaching plan based upon patient and family needs.
Developing, reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
Participating in unit and hospital continuous quality improvement activities.
In addition, provides direct care to patients of all ages with a variety of medical, surgical, pedatric, geratric, gynecological and health maintenance needs.
Advance level of competence in nursing and involving primarily functions, in addition to direct nursing care, such as peer review in nursing techniques, practices, and approaches.
Develops and implements a plan of care for assigned patients based on the nursing process.
Documents nursing activities regarding direct patient care, quality improvement, infection control, assignments, etc..
Performs other position related duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): EDUCATION: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. REGISTRATION:Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: GS-05:Completion of a program of less than 30 months' duration; OR, One (1) year of professional nursing (or at least a GS-04 grade level practical nurse or nursing assistant experience under the supervision of a professional nurse); OR, Bachelor's degree or four (4) academic years above high school (or completion of a program of at least 30 months duration). GS-07:Completion of a professional nursing program; AND, One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level; OR, Bachelor's degree with 'superior acedemic achievement', OR, One (1) full year of graduate education. GS-09:One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level; OR Master's or equivalent degree; OR two(2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education; EXAMPLES OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-09:For GS-9 grade level, you MUST have one (1) year of experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level) that included duties such as: given assignments, which concentrate on precedence situations, and assistance will be provided to the incumbent in work planning and selection of priorities; During this time period, the incumbent will have closer supervision than that described in the targeted position; Because the position is below the full-performance level, the incumbent will be expected to gradually assume more complex assignments and to work with greater independence until the level of performance described in the target position is achieved. Works under the general supervision of the Acute Care Nurse Manager. EVALUATION OF EDUCATION:At the GS-05 level, successfully completed undergraduate course work in nursing; the behavior, physical, or biological sciences related in to nursing; nutrition; public health; and maternal and child health in excess of that required for completion of an associate degree may be substituted for professional nursing experience at the rate of one (1) academic year for nine (9) months of experience. Graduate-level education must have been in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g. teaching a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.) or in a closely related non-nursing field directly applicable to the requirements of the position to be filled. EVALUATION OF EXPERIENCE: Experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. At GS-9 grade level and above, many positions require experience in a specialty area of nursing. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Must possess current, including but not limited to, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
Work is performed on regular and assigned basis. Alternate work schedule/tour of duty, callback, rotating shifts, nights/weekends/holidays.
