Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility, Belcourt, North Dakota. The primary purpose of this position is to provide diagnosis, evaluation, studies and treatment services of professionally acceptable quantity and quality in accordance with sound public health practices at the Service Unit. This position will report to the Chief Dental Officer.

The purpose of this position is to provide direct care to patients in a responsible, respectful and caring manner in the Optometry Department at the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility.
Routine duties shall include providing eye care services, including refractions to individuals eligible for services provided by the IHS and other community locations within the Service Unit.
Diagnoses optometric and ocular problems through external and internal physical evaluation of the eye and adnexa, detects neuromuscular impairment and anomalies of binocular function.
Treats visual disorders through examination, prescription of corrective lenses, vision training or pharmacological means.
Performs other position related duties as assigned.

- Occasional travel may be required for training and/or other work related duties.
- Relocation expenses MAY BE authorized and MAY BE PAID. You will be required to sign a one year service agreement. Failure to fulfill the one year service agreement may result in repayment of relocation expenses.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
DEGREE: Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) accredited by the Council of Optometric Education.
LICENSURE: Current license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, or a territory is required, except for those research positions that do not entail patient care responsibilities.
Applicants who meet the basic requirements qualify for GS-09.
Additional Requirements for Grades GS-11 and Above:
GS-11: One year of professional optometrist experience equivalent to at least GS-9 that demonstrated the ability to perform the work of the position to be filled. For example, for industrial optometrists, the applicant's experience must have demonstrated skill in developing or applying methods, procedures, or devices for protection of employees engaged in eye-hazardous work.
Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which annual leave is earned.
