This role will consist of both onsite and remote responsibilities, with time likely split evenly between onsite and remote.Job Location: Boston, MAReq ID: 15460BRJob Summary: Responsible for providing overall leadership, management, and training of the Coding and Validation areas. The position requires ICD-10-CM/PCS subject matter expertise and education for Health Information Management and the Medical Center.
Provides oversight and direction to the Coders and Validators for the development/maintenance of coding Policy and procedure and coders' accuracy and productivity according to the Department's standards.
Audits validation reviews of inpatient and outpatient medical records pre-billing to ensure accuracy of coding, regulatory compliance, and consistent data quality.
Oversees and coordinates efforts with Quality Review Coordinator to identify and resolve billing and revenue cycle issues pertaining to HIM. Coordinates efforts with the CDI nurses to insure data quality and overall communication with the clinical staff.
Formulates, communicates, and implements short and long range goals for the Coding and Validation areas.
Participates in hospital projects and administrative processes in order to represent HIM and requirements relative to compliance, revenue cycle, quality, and clinical documentation improvement.
Has the authority to direct and support managers with functional area responsibilities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: More than 7 Indirect Reports: 21-50
Has full responsibility for planning, monitoring and managing department budget.
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
Certificate 1 Certified Coding Specialist required., or Certificate 2 Certified Professional Coder required.
8-10 years related work experience required and 1-3 years supervisory/management experience required
AHIMA certified ICD-10 CM/PCS trainer.
Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.
