Department Description: Busy Mohs unit on the East Campus - Shapiro 2. Mohs surgery preferred 4 days per week. 3 busy Mohs surgeons.Job Location: Boston, MAReq ID: 17138BRJob Summary: Cuts and prepares frozen tissue by the Mohs Technique. In collaboration with the Practice Administrator and Medical Director, develops training manual and procedures for other histotechnicians and standardizes the laboratory policies and procedures.
Cuts and prepares frozen tissue by the Mohs micrographic surgery.
Under direction of the medical director of dermatologic surgery and the practice administrator, develops and maintains all training and professional development materials for the histology technician position.
Organizes laboratory environment to meet OSHA, JCAHO and BIDMC standards to create a safe and efficient workplace.
Participates in surgical procedures when not working on Mohs surgeries.
Supervises the histotechnicians' techniques, skills and competencies on a continual basis to ensure appropriate patient flow and volume.
High School diploma or GED required .
License required: ASCP Registered
5-8 years related work experience required.
Ability to work independently as a strong contributing member to a cohesive surgical team.
Strong leadership, time management, problem solving and decision making skills. Ability to set priorities and organize facilities to maximize results.
Knowledge and experience with the Mohs technique.
Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
