Washington State DSHS Therapy Aide - Rainier School in Buckley, Washington

The Department of Social and Health Services' Developmental Disabilities Administration at Rainier School, is currently recruiting for a Therapy Aide (Speech Pathology/Communicative Disorders).

This position (YK96E) is located in Program Area Team (PAT) C, and will work AM shift (8:00 am to 4:30 pm) Monday through Friday with Saturday and Sunday as regularly scheduled days off.

Rainier School is a habilitation center for individuals with developmental disabilities located within the city limits of Buckley, Washington about a mile-and-a-half from downtown. Rainier School's population is approximately 370 adults with a wide variety of abilities and needs. 24-hour residential care and specialized care or teaching is provided in the areas of work or vocational training, leisure activities, social relationships, and everyday life tasks. Conducting direct therapy and programs as instructed by Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to help clients increase or maintain their speech, communication, oral motor or eating/swallowing adaptive abilities and to increase their interactions with the environment.

Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the Speech Language Pathologist.

Assist with assessments for communication, language, speech, eating, swallowing oral motor and other functional living, adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and therapy needs.

Teach/train others to carry out speech/communication/eating/oral motor programs.


For those Therapy Aides working for Speech Pathologists, only Bachelor's degree with a major study in Speech Pathology or Communicative Disorders may be required.


(a) An associate of arts or sciences degree, or a certificate of proficiency, from a speech-language pathology assistant program from an institution of higher education that is approved by the board, as is evidenced by the following:

(i) Transcripts showing forty-five quarter hours or thirty semester hours of speech-language pathology coursework; and

(ii) Transcripts showing forty-five quarter hours or thirty semester hours of general education credit; or

(b) A bachelor of arts of sciences degree, as evidence by transcripts, from a speech, language, and hearing program from an institution of higher education that is approved by the board.
