The VA Eastern Colorado HealthCare System (ECHCS) is complexity level 1a and provides a full range of state-of-the-art patient care services. ECHCS provides tertiary care and services to over 72,000 patients and is a major referral center for veterans living in Wyoming, Montana, Kansas, and New Mexico. ECHCS serves as an educational and research center, it is highly affiliated with medical and educational institutions. Health Care Services are provided at 15 different geographically dispersed locations incorporating nine Community Based Outpatient Clinics, two Primary Care Telehealth Outpatient Clinics, one local and one remote Community Living Center, Homeless Veterans Domiciliary, a Community Referral and Resource Center, a Polytrauma and Blind Rehabilitation Center and VA presence on two DOD bases; Fort Carson and U.S. Air Force Academy covering a geographical area of over 10,000 square miles. ECHCS employs over 3,000 personnel in 150 occupations.

This position is located at the Burlington Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Burlington, Colorado. The Nurse Practitioner practices in an outpatient clinic setting and preforms a broad spectrum of patient care services at the expert level. This position has a collaborative relationship with all specialty care services within the network.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the Burlington Community Based Outpatient Clinic provides primary care to adult patients within the NP's clinical specialization. Primary care includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment and outcome measures of healthcare problems. To include the following: initiating and adjusting therapeutic regimens, performing histories and physicals, ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies, initiating consults and referrals and prescribing medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy, VA formulary, state regulations and scope of practice. Major duties include:
Provides leadership in the application of the nursing process to client care, organizational processes and/or systems, improving outcomes at the program or service level.
Provides leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that impact clients and staff, including initiating and participating in ethics consultations.
Manages program resources (financial, human, material or informational) to facilitate safe, effective and efficient care.
Implements an educational plan to meet changing program or service needs for self and others.
Maintains knowledge of current techniques, trends, and professional issues.
Uses professional standards of care and practices to evaluate programs and/or service activities.
Uses the group process to identify, analyze and resolve care problems.
Makes sustained contributions to health care by sharing expertise within and/or outside the medical facility.
Initiates interdisciplinary projects to improve organizational performance.
Monday through Friday; 8:00 to 4:30 or as agreed upon with the possibility of extended hours and weekends. NOTE: Candidates must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours and extended hours. The candidate must be willing to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary.

U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy;
Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration as an RN and active Advanced Practice Nurse;
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); and
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Masters of Science in Nursing with a major as a Nurse Practitioner from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE at time of graduation; and
National certification as Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected; and

NOTE:Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and step of the applicant selected.
