VA Hudson Valley Health Care System is located in the heart of the Hudson Valley, New York, surrounded by amazing hiking, biking and walking trails as well as a host of wonderful outdoor activities including activities on the Hudson River. The Hudson Valley is a hotbed for culture art, music, literature and more -- in towns, like Woodstock, Bethel, Rye, Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, Cold Spring and more. With historic locations like Hyde Park (home of President Franklin D. Roosevelt), Newburgh (the site of one of George Washington's Headquarters during the revolution) and the historic U.S. Military Academy, the area offers an abundance of single-person and family activities. The VA Hudson Valley Health Care System (Hudson Valley HCS) is a 400 bed multi-campus healthcare system located in Northern Westchester and Dutchess Counties with seven community-based clinics located in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Sullivan and Rockland counties. The VA Hudson Valley HCS, affiliated with New York Medical College, seeks 3 physicians.
The Hospitalist staff physician would function as the facility's medical officers during the weekends, holidays, evenings and nights (WHEN)shifts. The candidate will be responsible for our Urgent Care as well as for clinical management of admissions and discharges on our inpatient and extended care units. The incumbents is responsible for overall clinical leadership during his/her assigned duty hours. He/she must maintain BLS, ACLS, and OOORAM certifications.
The selected physician will contribute to the achievement of patient satisfaction and quality of care standards as well as write orders for diagnostic testing, prescribe medications, consult with specialty services, and utilize computerized/electronic medical records. The ideal candidate is Board Certified (or eligible if recent residency graduate) in Internal Medicine or Family Practice; and, must be proficient in the use of computerized systems related to patient care. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Physicians are covered under the Tort Claims Protection Act.
Salary: Applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board and Compensation Panel (for physicians) in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Position requires moderate lifting, pushing and pulling: reaching above the shoulders; walking and standing; kneeling and repeated bending. All applicants must be physically and mentally stable to perform efficiently the duties of the position.
WORK SCHEDULE: Full Time including WHEN hours (Weekends, Holidays, Evenings or Nights) 8-12 hour shifts to include a 40 hour week.

- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Preference will be given to physicians that are Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine to work with our panel of patients.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
