The primary function of OSR is to facilitate UNC’s responsible, efficient, and compliant stewardship of all aspects of sponsored research administration including proposal review, award negotiation and financial reporting. These activities include monitoring institutional compliance for research and training activities, pre-award services, billing and financial reporting, cash management, cost analysis and compliance of research-related activities, verifying technical report and patent and invention report submissions by Principal Investigators, closeout of awards, and the implementation of information technology into research administration activities.

The Assistant Director will, in addition to operational leadership of OSR, contribute to the ongoing development of OSR’s capacity to provide best-in-class service to UNC-CH researchers and to demonstrate to all sponsors and to internal stakeholders that UNC-CH is an effective steward of research funds.
The Assistant Director of Operations will be responsible for ensuring: 1. Standard operating procedures are consistent applied. 2. Staff have appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities to deliver excellent customer service to campus. 3. Problems and/or concerns raised by both internal and external stakeholders are resolved.
