ThePatient Support Technician (PST)is an integral part of a multidisciplinary care team. Under the direction of licensed nursing personnel; the PST within the scope of training and hospital guidelines performs a variety of technical and specialized skills that assist with addressing the comfort and personal care needs of the patient.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to: measuring vital signs, specimen collection, phlebotomy, administering blood glucose testing, feeding, bathing, repositioning, transporting, performing EKGs, measuring I&O’s and electronic documentation. Direct observation and monitoring of patients deemed to be at risk to self or others. Care is provided to all patients based on age specific development and cultural diversity. Performs necessary clerical duties by computing and maintaining records for the5th Floor. Overall management of the nursing station including taking off physician orders, answering telephones, answering patient call lights and obtaining supplies and other duties as needed. Observes EKG monitors and reports any abnormalities or unusual rhythms to the nurse immediately.

Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student. Direct supervision means the primary caregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift.

EDUCATION: * A High School Diploma/GED is preferred *LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: * * An American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider is required * A Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) license is preferred *EXPERIENCE: * * Experience on patient care preferred * Must show proficiency in performing nursing assistant duties
* Knowledge of medical terminology desirable.
* Experience as a ward clerk or unit secretary in acute care preferred * Performs in accordance with delineated job responsibilities and satisfactorily completes a yearly evaluation based on these responsibilities * Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of the patient/internal & external customer

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: * * Must have the ability to effectively read, write and speak fluent English * Effective communication skills; both orally and written * Computer skills needed * Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care *SHIFT: * PRN position - no guaranteed shifts/hours * All shifts are 12 hour shifts (7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am) * Please list any/all shifts that you are available to work during the application process
