This is a contingent position.
PAE is currently seeking a Bioinformatistician based in Charlottesville, VA. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Advance the discovery of genetic exploitation for intelligence purposes related to human DNA or bio-warfare agents
Monitor research in the field of bioinformatics to identify and recommend advances with potential intelligence applications
Adapt software tools, databases, and/or other government systems as required to implement advances in genetic intelligence
Draft and/or review intelligence products to accurately convey exploitation results to an intelligence analytic audience
Deduce complex data sets such as data from next generation sequencing (NGS) (e.g., genomic/proteomic data sets)
Create novel bioinformatics pipelines for use in analyzing complex data
Lead technical tasks within a collaborative teaming environment (e.g., scientists, statisticians, program managers)
Develop and execute experimental designs and test plans
Train team members as well as government customer personnel on the concepts and use of bioinformatics pipelines
Provide presentations at technical meetings and write technical reports
Master's degree in bioinformatics or closely related field
5 years of experience working in the bioinformatics field performing research, modifying or developing bioinformatics software systems, generating technical reporting
Working knowledge of Sanger and next generation DNA sequencing technologies (e.g. 454, Illumina, SOLiD, PacBio, Ion Torrent) and NGS data processing
Currently have an active DoD Secret security clearance
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and abilities
Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (e.g. C++, Java, Perl, R, and/or Python)
Experience working in a Linux environment, running a cluster using SGE and BASH shell scripting
