Software Architect


As an Architect at United Airlines, you’ll ensure that complex architecture decisions are implemented consistently across IT, and in line with business and IT strategy. You’ll facilitate development of architecture patterns and standards. Consult in design of complex enterprise initiatives, and provide guidance to project teams. You’ll also manage Enterprise Architecture models and repositories and play a key role in communicating and marketing the Enterprise Architecture strategy.


  • Collaborates with other stakeholders in the IT division to evaluate business goals, identify business problems, and propose solutions

  • Works independently with multiple projects to provide direction and align solution architectures to enterprise strategy and standards

  • Provides direction and guidance to architect major technology change projects, leading strategic options analysis, proposing solutions, and highlighting trade-offs and risks

  • Researches, identifies, and recommends industry best practices for solving business and technology problems

  • Influences the technology solutions and technology investments that will deliver the business strategy

  • Identifies key technology enablers to optimize UA IT investments including new and innovative uses of emerging enterprise technology platforms

  • Models the enterprise-wide technology capabilities using EA modeling techniques and tools

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, related field and/or equivalent work experience required



  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Computer Systems related fields, including solution architecture and/or Enterprise Architecture

  • Confident, comfortable communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to analyze information and to evaluate the implications of a course of action or solution

  • Expertise in design and implementation of complex IT solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and recommend technology or processes improvements


  • Enterprise Architecture experience


  • Willing and able to travel as needed for business required (Up to 10%)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
