Job Description

The Web Developer position exists to assist in the development and management of technical aspects of Focus on the Family’s online presence, including writing and testing code, troubleshooting, and addressing performance issues such as speed of access. This includes work on the design, development, and maintenance of web applications, responsive websites, and native mobile apps, while maintaining consistency and standards within the systems. The Web Developer position also works to ensure that the release process is fluid and efficient, overseeing continuous integration, automated deployments, documentation, and hand-off to the Application Hosting and Production Support teams as necessary.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:**

  1. Works within a team environment, including Scrum practitioners, business analysts, designers, developers, and testers, to address the programming needs of visionary clients and develop state of the art user experiences
  2. Develops or enhances web-based applications, responsive websites or pages, blogs/forums, and native mobile apps using programming technologies including but not limited to: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C#, ASP.NET, Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server, Team Development for Sitecore, SQL, MongoDB, GIT, Google Search Appliance, enterprise CMS (Sitecore 8.x preferred) platforms, and/or blog (WordPress preferred) platforms
  3. Following industry and best practice standards, reviews, analyzes, and modifies web systems including documenting, designing, developing, testing, monitoring, and maintenance
  4. Understands and implements best practices and development platforms for mobile development on iOS and Android operating systems
  5. Works with vendors on mobile application development, including architecture, code reviews and testing
  6. Troubleshoots coding, applications, integrations, and other technology issues as they arise
  7. Contributes to designing, implementing, and maintaining continuous integration and automated deployment systems and processes
  8. Works to institute improved unit testing tools and methodologies, and assists the testing team with automated testing
  9. Works with the Application Hosting and Production Support teams on releases as necessary
  10. Assists in security and performance reviews
  11. Provides advice and educates internal clients regarding development processes and concepts

Other Duties/Responsibilities:**

  1. Installs or customizes modules and features for COTS and proprietary software packages
  2. Performs other duties as assigned

Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Communications, other relevant discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 2-5 years of overall software development experience, preferably in C# programming language and .Net platform
  • Capable of learning new coding languages such as PHP, Ruby on Rails, NodeJS, etc.
  • Experience developing software in an Agile (Scrum/Scrum ban) environment preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with JavaScript frameworks preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with CSS preprocessors (LESS, Grunt, Bower preferred)
  • Solid understanding of source control systems (TFS, Git preferred)
  • Experience with at least one continuous integration tools (TeamCity, Jenkins, Chef preferred)
  • Solid understanding of unit testing methodologies, experience with at least one unit testing framework (xUnit preferred)
  • Experience with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager preferred
  • Working knowledge and experience in using best practice and industry standards e.g., W3C, CoreMob, etc.
