Established in 1981, The Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (“MOHELA"), is one of the largest servicers of student loans. Our success for the past thirty-five years is due to the tremendous efforts of our outstanding staff.

MOHELA is currently searching for an outstanding individual to join us as a Human Resources Generalist II, primarily focused on employee relations, FMLA administration and being the lead contact for a 200 staff member facility.

The position will be located in Columbia, MO. Position requires training at our headquarters in Chesterfield, MO. Some travel required.

General Statement of Duties:

The Generalist II performs a variety of responsible, confidential, and complex technical and administrative duties relating to personnel functions and programs including areas of employee relations, benefits, recruitment, employee orientation, and/or other general human resources areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Employee Relations-Responds to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations and civil rights complaints. Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations.

  2. Benefits Administration-Assist in the coordination and compliance of FMLA and short-term/long-term disability benefits. This coordination includes tracking leave and keeping management updated on allowable leave information. Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures procedures, and reporting are in compliance.

  3. Recruiting Support and Backup-Assists with external recruitment efforts for selected positions such as: resume screening; creation of job advertisements; interviewing; administering testing; reference checking; and offering positions.

  4. Employee Orientation Support-Distribute, receive, and review all pre-employment, new hire and benefits paperwork and ensure accuracy and timely receipt of required documents. Processes new hire paperwork, including I-9s and E-verify administration. Set up and maintain employee personnel files; perform routine audits of personnel files.

  5. Other Human Resource Duties-Assist employees with workplace and/or personal matters that particularly impact their job satisfaction or productivity. Counsel management staff regarding staffing issues, employee conflicts, or performance problems. Advises management and staff in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues. Respond to requests for employment verification and provide authorized information from employee s personnel records upon request. Prepare reports for management.

*Experience: *3 or more years of Human Resources relatable experience required. Relatable experience would be managing and administering FMLA, ADA, EEO and other workplace legal situations within a Human Resources office.

*Education: *Bachelor degree highly preferred; some college coursework required.

Strong organizational, communication, human relations, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality is a necessity for this role.

High degree of professionalism, positive attitude, ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff, commitment to service and excellence.

Self-direction with the ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities.

*Desired Characteristics: *Knowledge of human resource requirements for a federal contractor including the Service Contract Act. SPHR, and/or PHR desired but not required.

  • Medical Dental and Vision coverage would begin 60 days after hire and then the beginning of the next month. This would also be the effective date of the company paid life insurance, short term/long term disability, accidental health.

  • For employees who can be covered by another plan and can show evidence of coverage, MOHELA would provide $216 a month to those employees who opt-out.

  • Premiums for short term, long term disability, life insurance(two times annual salary), Accidental Death are 100% paid for by MOHELA and are effective the same date the medical insurance is effective. The employee can purchase additional life insurance coverage through MetLife.

  • After one year of service, employees can start participating in the 401K retirement where MOHELA provides a Dollar for Dollar match up to 8% of salary contributed.

  • An employee can immediately participate in a 457(b). A 457(b) plan is a non-qualified tax-deferred compensation plan that works very much like other retirement plans such as the 401(k).

  • Employees who are employed with the Authority for 5 years or more are a vested participant in the company paid defined pension plan. Prior to 5 years there is no vesting as this is consider cliff vesting. The formula for the benefit is the number of pension credited service years (1000 hours of employment) times the average of your largest 36 months of salary times 2.5%.

  • Salary increases occur annually and range from 0-4% depending on performance. Additional increases can occur when promotions are received.

  • After 3 months of employment, individual wishing to go back to school would qualify for tuition reimbursement up to $12, 000 per calendar year. After 1 year employees whose dependents are in school can qualify for reimbursement as well.

  • 6 Paid Holidays each year and Paid Time Off along with Vacation is earned on the employee s first paycheck. There are 4 additional “holidays that MOHELA is open. When an employee works on that day(or covers it with PTO/Vacation/Prior Personal Holiday Time), 8 hours of personal holiday time is then earned.

  • 3 weeks of vacation and 7 days of Paid Time Off is earned annually
