The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). The IHS goal is to raise Indian health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides leadership and direction to programs and activities designed to improve health outcomes to over 1.9 million AI/AN through a system of IHS, Tribal, and Urban operated facilities and programs.

This position is located within the Indian Health Service, Crow Service Unit, Crow Agency, MT.
Clean and stock the unit, clean used instruments and equipment, and dispose of waste materials. Transcribe tests, x-rays and procedures. Work in the medical clinical area, as well as specialty clinics. Obtain and record vital signs on PCC and Electronic Health Record. Prepares patients for examination and assists with minor procedures. Process new admissions by taking vital signs, height, weight, and other patient information and recording in patient's record. Report out of range findings and patient condition changes to charge nurse or nurse assigned to patient.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): The following shows the amounts of education and/or experience required to qualify for this position: For GS-4: Six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-3 grade level OR successful completion of two (2) years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position. Specialized Experience: For GS-4 level, is work involving performing duties which require a basic knowledge of principles and practices required to perform Health Technician (Clinical Assistant) duties to deliver direct patient care to all age groups, provide care to patients according to individual assignments, recognize adverse signs and symptoms of assigned patients and alerting provider, operation of specialized medical equipment, maintain and demonstrate knowledge of and adheres to clinic and departmental safety regulations, maintains knowledge of information management concepts and effectively participates in implementing the information management principles and maintains security and confidentiality of data and information. For GS-5: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level OR successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. Specialized Experience: For GS-5 level, you must have one year of experience (equivalent to the GS-4) is work involving providing informal and basic health education and teaching to patients and families. Complete tasks that are of a clerical and technical support to the Medical and Nursing staff. Ensure safety of Fall Risk patients. Complete monthly chart reviews. Transport patients to and from radiology as needed. Transport/Escort discharged patients to their POV's. Record Intake/Output Assist with ADL's (activities of daily living) as needed. Assist with the registration and discharge process of patients admitted to the inpatient nursing unit. Stock supplies in exam rooms and cleans rooms between patients, monitors supplies. knowledge of medical terminology and filing procedures, assists in emergency situations, including CPR and other life-saving maneuvers. May assist in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities. NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
