This position is located within the Indian Health Service, Crow Service Unit, Crow Agency, MT, Outpatient Department. Clean and stock the unit, clean used instruments and equipment, and dispose of waste material. Transcribe tests, x-rays, and procedures. Work in the medical clinical area, as well as specialty clinics. Obtain and record vital signs on PCC and Electronic Health Record. Prepare patients for examination and assist with minor procedures. Process new admissions by taking vital signs, height, weight, and other patient information and recording in patient's record. Report finding to charge nurse or nurse assigned to patient. Answer telephone, take messages as appropriate and provide physician, mid-level provider or nurse with information as appropriate. Schedule appointments, send reminder letters, updating patient demographics and insurance information.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): GS-4: Six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-3 grade level OR successful completion of two (2) years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position. To qualify based on specialized experience for GS-04 level (in addition to six months of general experience), you must have six months of experience (equivalent to the GS-03) level that included duties such as: Deliver direct patient care to all age groups. Take and record vital signs. Schedule appointments. Recognize adverse signs and symptoms of assigned patients and alerting provider. Operation of specialized medical equipment. Adhere to clinic and departmental safety regulations. Enter patient data into electronic heath record. Maintains security and confidentiality of data and information. Schedule appointments, send reminder letters, updating patient demographics and insurance information. Pre-visit planning such as retrieving medical records from outlying facilities for in-coming patient follow up, reviewing patients chart for immunization updates, and lab work. For GS-5: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level OR successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. To qualify based on specialized experience for GS-05 level, you must have one year of experience (equivalent to the GS-04) level that included duties such as: Complete tasks that are clerical and provide technical support of the Medical and Nursing staff. Provide information, basic health education and teaching to patients and families. Stock supplies in exam rooms. Clean rooms between patients, monitor supplies, clean and sterilize instruments and equipment. Use of medical terminology and filing procedures. Assist in emergency situations, including CPR and other life-saving maneuvers. Assist in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities. Schedule appointments, send reminder letters, updating patient demographics and insurance information. Pre-visit planning such as retrieving medical records from outlying facilities for in-coming patient follow up, reviewing patients chart for immunization updates, and lab work. NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
