The Corporate Delivery and Technology departments at Southwest Airlines both report to SWA’s Chief Information Officer (CIO). These functions work hand in hand to manage the Company delivery plan, execute projects and programs, develop and integrate new products and technologies, and develop methodologies while ensuring the appropriate architecture, quality standards, service management procedures, and security measures are in place.

The Senior Analyst or Business Consultant Intern will work with either the Office of the CIO (OCIO) or Business Technology Solutions (BTS) Teams in the Corporate Delivery and Technology department at Southwest Airlines.
Overview of the OCIO Role
The OCIO houses key functions such as Technology Strategy & Planning, Vendor Management Office (VMO), and Project Management Office (PMO) to enable a well-run, multi-million dollar Corporate Delivery and Technology Department.
The Intern will provide research and analysis on multiple topics, ranging from strategy (e.g., vendor consolidation, resource strategy, Technology Roadmap) to analytics (e.g., identifying and executing productivity opportunities, developing
KPIs/scorecards) to project/program management and planning (e.g., executing key initiatives within the OCIO and/or across other Technology functions, mid-term and annual planning).
Overview of the BTS Role
The BTS Teams in Technology partner directly with our internal Business Areas to define their strategic direction and identify the Technology capabilities needed to realize their vision. These are then translated into Technology delivery projects or programs, including capability roadmaps, business cases, and delivery project plans. The Intern will provide research and analysis on multiple topics, ranging from strategy (e.g., defining future state capabilities for Business Customers) to analytics (e.g., define business case, business process mapping) to project/program management and planning (e.g., executing key initiatives for Business Customers, supporting on-going portfolio governance).
WORK ACTIVITIES (for both OCIO and BTS)
The Intern partners with senior leadership and other departments to lead various activities required to support the Technology Roadmap. Will be personally responsible for driving analysis, recommendations, and delivery across many Technology capabilities. Work activities include:
Demonstrate thought leadership across many areas in Technology, including strategy & planning, vendor management, program management, and risk management
Contribute to development of Technology Roadmap, including strategies, goals, and actionable plans to deliver the roadmap
Provide research, analysis, and recommendations to continuously improve the capabilities of the Technology Department
Coordinate industry and competitive research analysis
Create presentations intended for officers of the company and deliver presentations intended for director level positions
Manage and support mid to large-scale change initiatives; assists and coordinates business case preparation and validation
Bachelor's Degree required
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a fulltime two-year MBA or MS Degree in Business, Technology, Finance, or related field.
Planned graduation date between December 2017 and June 2018
Maintained 3.0 or above cumulative GPA
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (for both OCIO and BTS)
Preferred: 2 years of work experience in Technology role or 2 years Management and/or Technology consulting.
Experience developing and executing strategic plans; including mid to large-scale programs with complex change.
Must have strong knowledge of strategic and financial analysis.
Must have proven analytical and quantitative skills; experience with spreadsheets or other quantitative modeling.
Must have the ability to assume a high level of responsibility and to provide direction in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
Must have the ability to properly manage highly sensitive and confidential information.
Must have the ability to contend with the range and complexity of large business problems.
Must have strong understanding of IT and business process with the ability to translate business needs into actionable goals
Must have the ability to plan and drive large business initiatives to completion.
Must have the ability to partner and work effectively with all levels of management to develop and implement Company plans.
Must be an expert in developing and delivering presentations to large audiences including senior leadership.
Experience in a leadership position in a club or organization is preferred.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues in a structured and concise manner.
Proven ability in identifying and resolving issues.
Proven ability in designing and conducting analyses, as well as synthesizing recommendations.
Location and Pay:
This position requires authorization to work in the United States for any candidate without sponsorship
Pay of $5,400 per month, housing stipend of $1,200 (one time at program start), plus flight privileges.
This position is located in Dallas, Texas at the Southwest Airlines Headquarters.
