This announcement establishes a standing register of eligible applicants to be considered for permanent full-time appointments. The first list of eligible applicants will be pulled for referral on 11:59 PM (EST) August 19, 2016 and then again every Friday at 11:59 PM (EST) until the closing date of Saturday, December 31, 2016. This position is for a full-time non- invasive and non-interventional cardiologist
The Cardiologist will be responsible for consultative services and developing treatment plans for the management of Veterans in an outpatient, inpatient, Community Living Center, and Urgent Care settings. The incumbent will provide evaluations and treatment recommendations regarding patients with cardiovascular conditions.
Duties will include the interpretation of ECGs, Holter and event monitor recordings, and transthoracic echocardiograms.
Performs interpretation of treadmill, pharmacologic, nuclear, and echocardiographic stress tests.
The physician should have strong interpersonal skills to establish professional working relationships with clinical service providers within the medical center and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).The Staff Cardiologist shall be available for all urgent assessments and consultations as part of the patient care team.
The VA Illiana Health Care System is affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine and Residency Program.

b. *Education*. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
(4) For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.
c. *Licensure and Registration.*
d. *English Language Proficiency.* Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Note: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) before the starting date of the position. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). The ACLS requirement is satisfied by attaining, and maintaining, current status through an approved AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course. No online certifications will be accepted.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
