Ghafari Senior Project Manager - Paint/Tooling Systems in Dearborn, Michigan


General Summary:

The Senior Project Manager serves as the project team leader and liaison between the project team, the client and internal management. The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is accountable for overall project success as defined by the clientandGhafari. The SPM is the client’s central contact person, and window into the Ghafari production team. The SPM participates in day-to-day project activities, communication, and management in order to facilitate a successful project. The SPM is responsible to control project activities to contain cost, meet deadlines and satisfy client’s expectations. The SPM must be capable of, and have a proven track record of successfully managing large, multi-discipline projects/programs and/or multiple projects simultaneously.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development of all project deliverables and quality standards for both small and large, multi-discipline projects, required to meet internal and client deliverables.

  • Be familiar with all contract documents and all project(s) objectives including client standards, as well as country of work codes and specifications (i.e. OSHA, NFPA, LSC101, etc.).

  • Develop plans for executing and controlling large, multi-discipline projects, including but not limited to, schedules, budgets, resource management, and change management.

  • Monitor project activities for compliance with project objectives.

  • Define approval process and timing, both internally and with the client, for review of all project submittals.

  • Monitor that all engineering calculations are properly prepared and that the review of contractor calculations and deliverables is performed in a timely fashion according to the scope of the project.

  • Be accountable for quality of program deliverables both, internally and with the client.

  • Maintain positive client relationships.

  • Maintain internal employee relationships and positive team morale.

  • Direct the preparation of project procedures and policies.

  • Provide direction and coaching to members of the project team.

  • Lead and/or participate in project meetings, job review meetings and bid meetings.

  • Provide on-going performance feedback and coaching to members of project team.

  • Ensure that projects are closed-out according to internal procedural requirements and client requirements.

  • Facilitate the documentation and communication of lessons learned throughout projects.

  • Fulfill corporate administrative requirements (e.g., timesheets, e-mail, expense reports, company meetings, ad hoc meetings, etc.).

  • Be the key contact between other corporate departments and workforce to ensure internal and external client satisfaction.

  • Make sure that all project team members are appropriately safety trained, orientated to possible hazards and properly outfitted with personal protective equipment when going or working on-site.

  • Prepare and monitor all invoicing from pre-approval through client approval and follow-up to ensure timely payments both to Ghafari and from Ghafari to sub-contractors.

  • Prepare and monitor resource allocations to ensure project is properly staffed.

  • Define and maintain project change order process to ensure accurate documentation is prepared, maintained and communicated, both internally and externally.

  • Communicate project information to team members and management regarding all relevant issues; i.e. conflict resolution, risk assessments, schedule deviations, cost impacts, invoicing status, audit results, employee performance evaluations, etc.

  • Lead and/or participate in contract negotiations with clients, including base contracts and extras.

  • Support the sales process by leading or participating in the following activities: proposal development, estimate development, sales presentations, developing a “client following”, and client maintenance.

  • Have a strong understanding of, and practice the financial and business policies of our firm.

  • Support internal strategic business initiatives.

  • Understand and be able to communicate service offerings across the corporation.

  • Understand, support and portray the Ghafari corporate image and display professionalism in all related activities.

  • Display leadership qualities internally throughout the organization and externally with clients and potential clients.



  • Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited school, and minimum 15 years of related work experience in Paint Systems.

Skills/Competencies :

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong leadership skills that highlight a passion for client satisfaction, quality, team building, mentoring and conflict resolution.

  • Process driven in the application of the Ghafari Quality Management System and supporting processes associated with Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and the Project Management Body of Knowledge.

  • Proficiency with Vision software and the Microsoft Office suite of software, including MS Project.
