VA New Jersey Health Care System (VANJHCS) seeks to recruit one full-time anesthesiologists at its East Orange, NJ campus. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Incumbent is accountable to Chief, Anesthesiology, to provide the most effective delivery of anesthetic care throughout the medical center while meeting and exceeding compliance standards.
  • Provides a variety of services including pre-operative patient exam and assessment,intra-operative care utilizing MAC, regional and general anesthesia techniques on ASA class 1 through 5 patients, and post-operative care including ventilator management within recovery area and ICU.
  • Provides anesthesia-related direct patient care in all functional areas of the OR, ICU,ward, and clinic settings as needed, to include on-call coverage.
  • Provides critical care related direct care as a part of a multidisciplinary critical care team.
  • Trains and teaches residents, fellows, medical students, and certified registered nurse anesthetists.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full Time, Monday-Friday, hours are varied.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Preferred Experience:

Board Certification/Eligibility in Anesthesia

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.
