Washington State DSHS Adult Protective Social Service Specialist 3 in East Wenatchee, Washington

Home and Community Services (HCS) is currently recruiting for a dynamic, motivated, and culturally competent Adult Protective Social Service Specialist. The position will be classified as a Social Service Specialist 3 and will be based in East Wenatchee.


Working at the specialist level, you will have the opportunity to independently provide intensive and professional services to a population of high risk, potentially dysfunctional and frail persons who are medically, functionally, mentally, and/or financially dependent and in need of the full range of HCS services. This population includes clients in community settings who are at high risk of being placed in an institution.

Some of the major duties you will be doing are:

  • Investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and/or abandonment of vulnerable adults.
  • Face to face interviews with alleged victims, alleged perpetrators, and other collateral contacts.
  • Collect and evaluate relevant information to make decisions related to investigation, services and outcomes.
  • Assess vulnerable adult's cognition, physical, mental and functional abilities.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with appropriate law enforcement agencies, legal entities, contractors/providers, Physicians, numerous community agencies, and other DSHS divisions in order to provide services to vulnerable adults.
  • Provide client advocacy, as well as consultation, networking, family support and crisis intervention. Qualifications

Here are the Qualifications we are looking for:

A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field, and three years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2 OR One year as a Social Service Specialist 2 (formerly Social Worker 2). OR

A Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field and two years of paid social service experience equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2.

Experience must include one year of paid experience working with vulnerable adults assessing risk and determining functional capabilities.

*A two year Master's degree in one of the above fields that included a practicumwill be substituted for one year of paid social service experience.
