Position summary:

The Hospital Specialist is responsible for driving product sales through the promotion of our products, value-added services and strong relationships with customers. They also provide consultative solutions and services to existing and new customers for achieving assigned sales targets and profitable growth.

S/he will be recognized as a trusted advisor and partner in patient care by the institutional HCP team and as a significant contributor. S/he will act as a product/content/ clinical expert in large academic teaching centers and community hospitals and will identify and develop thought leaders and advocates to support Sanofi solutions in collaboration with the cross-functional account team including SAM, MSL, ABM, Marketing etc.

Generates and sustains support for products on institutional formularies. Works with institution to optimize and ensure access via discussion on payer environment, co-pay, hospital formulary access, and patient support programs. In addition, drives optimization of patient care via continuum of care models, discharge protocols, treatment algorithms etc...

S/he will have full understanding of the complex institutional and regional networks and s/he can develop and implement programs that will meet specific needs of institutions which are aligned to Sanofi objectives. S/he will build and maintain preferred partner relationships with HCP in the institutions and, in collaboration with the SAM, work with institutional procurement team (RFP) and/or buying groups to improve Sanofi solutions competitive position and reimbursement in the institution.

Ensures continued adherence to the ethical and legal standards relating to our commercial practices including the current Innovative Medicines Canada code.

Planning & Execution

  • Achieve assigned sales objective for the territory.

  • Organize his/her accounts to maximize sales impact.

  • Review and analyze market data for developing and implementing account plans that focus on selling to targeted customer segments / business channels.

  • Understands and applies knowledge of health care industry, trends, applicable laws and regulations, market conditions, and the market access environment (including but not limited to health outcomes, payer/ reimbursement landscape and patient flow/influence between academic institutions and community practices) and analyze these factors in the development of account plans and in daily execution of customer interactions within compliance guidelines.

  • Demonstrates highly effective account management skills and exemplary selling competencies. Collaborates with account team on identifying business opportunities and developing appropriate tactics and strategies. Use skills and tools to understand customer needs and adjust sales approach accordingly.

  • Develops and implements account based business plans that properly identify and prioritize activities to accomplish short and long term goals aligned to Sanofi solution strategic plan

  • Delivers value through customizing tactics to meet customer needs.

  • Execute calls on HCP to provide accurate product information and ensure availability of Sanofi solutions in all institutions

  • Measures and evaluates ROI of KOL/Institutional focused value-added programs.

  • Demonstrates deep marketplace, therapeutic, product and disease expertise based on thorough understanding of rigorous scientific principles and data, including mechanism of action, indications, efficacy, safety, etc.


Key requirements for this job

Education: University degree with ability to learn medical information


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical sales.

  • Significant past experience working in a hospital environment with hospital based products an asset.

  • Background knowledge of Institutional Hematology/ Anti-coagulation products, Hospital systems, and the therapeutic disease site a preferred asset.

  • Ability to navigate the institutional systems, procurement decision making process, P&T and develop sound business partnerships with key decision makers.

  • Proficient knowledge and understanding of the reimbursement landscape, private and public .

  • The candidate must be able to facilitate and lead relevant discussions on the clinical and economic benefits of promoted products and work closely with Sales, Marketing , Access and Medical to present consistent data to the customer.

  • The candidate must possess account management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data to develop strategic and actionable account plans to deliver sales results.

  • Strong negotiating skills.

  • Ability to persuasively present approved information to all customers (physicians, clinical pharmacists, healthcare key decision makers.)

  • Valid drivers license,

  • Computer proficiency

  • 40% travel for business meetings, conferences, training
