Walworth County Registered Nurse, In-House Pool (PRN) in Elkhorn, Wisconsin
When working in the RN capacity, you will be responsible for performing professional nursing activities in the care of residents as well as delegating aspects of care delivery to nursing assistants as appropriate and assisting in the completing of performance evaluations for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) and Certified Medication Assistants (CMA).
SUPERVISION Directly supervises CNAs, CMAs and in the case of an RN they also supervise Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) while carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Pool employees will be scheduled based upon theiravailability one month at a time, one month in advance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

RN Duties Include:
Utilize the nursing process:collect and record data, participate in developing, implementing and evaluating the residents plan of care and update CNA care cards and flow sheets.
Monitor the direct care staff to ensure that resident's rights are maintained.
Assure the continuity of care through shift-to-shift report for the entire direct care team in the assigned neighborhood.
Interact directly with residents, their significant others and the representatives of other agencies on an ongoing basis.
Provide resident education as appropriate.
Assume responsibility for the whereabouts of all residents in the assigned area.
Direct the staff's response during fire drills or other emergency situations.
Maintain a safe environment for residents and staff in assigned area.
Consult with other members of the interdisciplinary team, collaborate in the development of interdisciplinary goals for residents, assure agreed upon actions are carried out and attend multi-disciplinary staff meetings.
Assign duties and resident assignments to the CNAs and CMAs each day as well as follow up to ensure the work has been completed and review CNA documentation for accuracy on a daily basis.
Complete and submit the Minimum Data Set (MDS).
Participate in counseling and formal job evaluations of CNAs & CMAs when necessary and consult with the appropriate Nurse Manager for assistance with this process.
Participate in the orientation of licensed staff, CNAs and CMAs.
Act as preceptors for new staff.
Participate in the evaluation of supplies and monitor staff for cost effective supply utilization.
Request that all equipment receives maintenance as required.
Communicate problems/concerns to appropriate Lakeland Health Care Center (LHCC) employees to ensure that issues which may affect care delivery or general operation of the facility are dealt with in an effective manner.
Coordinate the implementation of physician orders, call and accept verbal or telephone orders from physicians and transcribe according to LHCC policies and procedures.
Administer medications, assess resident response to medications, drug interactions, the need to withhold medication and the need for "as needed" medications.
Assume the responsibility for bringing to the attention of the physician any behavioral or physical changes in the resident and response to treatment.
Review physician orders and monthly medication and treatment records every thirty days.
Assume charge nurse duties, as appropriate.
Maintain personal professional competence through participation in nursing and management continuing education opportunities.
Attend and participate in all in-service educational opportunities, as appropriate to the job classification.
Participate in quality improvement activities.
Participate on committees as well as attend and participate in nursing meetings.
Be an active member of the Nursing Innovation Council or one of its subcommittees.

Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree in nursing with zero to six months of relevant prior experience.Experience in restorative nursing, long-term care, psychiatric nursing, medical nursing or geriatric nursing preferred.Proven experience in ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry as well as ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Proven experience with medical terminology.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Wisconsin Registered Nurse license through WI Department of Safety and Professional Services.
Criminal background check free of convictions of abuse of individuals or misappropriation of property while in a formal caretaking setting.
All staff of Lakeland Health Care Center may be called upon to respond to emergency situations assisting residents in their physical positioning.
If you are not available to work on the date this position starts, you will not be awarded the position.
All employees may be required to work overtime as determined by the department head.
