Kratos Technology & Training Solutions SCADA Systems Engineer in Fair Lawn, New Jersey
The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Controls Engineer (SCADA/Controls Engineer) is responsible for program automation and Programmable Logic Control Systems (PLCs). They are in charge of testing, startup, operations and maintenance of PLCs. They work closely with the Project Manager and Engineering Manager to insure design integrity and functionality.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Program automation and control systems involving PLCs (Programmable Logic controllers like Siemens, Allen Bradley, GE, etc.)
Create, read logic and flow diagrams for programming, simulation and testing
Works closely with engineers and subcontractors to develop and execute test procedures and test plans.
Provide controls expertise for testing, startup, operation and maintenance with the support of technical specialists
Performs electrical and mechanical troubleshooting on shop floor during set-up and test
Works closely with electrical and mechanical assembly team to prepare for Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
Proposes and manages the life cycle and evolution of the controls for the products and specific customization on projects
Manages the technical relationship with the strategic PLC component suppliers for assigned products as it relates to the Purchasing and Service Departments
Maintains Software Requirement Specification (SRS) documents for existing or new products
Works with outside programmers when necessary to complete tasks on time and within budget
Plays integral role in system acceptance and sign-off at customers facilities
Provides training and support to Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Service and Project Managers

Experience and Skills:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Expert knowledge of Siemens PLC logic programming with Siemens S7 and TIA Portal
Proficient with Ventilation, Drainage and Power Systems: Multifunction Protective Relays, VFDs, Damper Control Panels, Motor Control Centers and Pump Control systems.
Ability to interpret complex customer specifications and develop proposals
Working knowledge of control panel design
Knowledgeable with Hardware/Schematic design
Familiarity with HMI software design (i.e. Siemens WinCC (TIA Portal))
Working knowledge of national electrical and safety codes and practices
Experience with MS Office Suite
Ability to interact effectively across diverse cultures and at all levels
Competent to clearly present information in both one-on-one and group settings
Proven history of problem solving skills and able to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision
Ability to work individually and in a team environment
Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work in cross functional teams
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Electrical Engineering Degree (BSEE/ MSEE) preferred
Proven track record in programming leadership with PLCs and peripherals such as HMIs and SCADAs
Experience with Command, Indication and Control of 13.8KV and 26.4KV Substation Switchgear
Experience with Siemens WinCC or WinCC-OA
3-5 years of experience in a similar controls environment
Experience with Siemens S7 family of PLCs is a must specifically S7-300 and S7-400H redundant PLCs.
Siemens Step7 and TIA programming experience is preferred Good understanding of PLC communication protocols such as PROFINET, PROFIBUS, DNP3, Modbus, Modbus TCP/IP, and Ethernet/IP

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee will likely be placed in an office. The work environment characteristics are representative of those of an employee encounters while performing essential functions of the job in a typical office/workstation situation. Able to work sitting or standing at desk and operate a computer via standard input devices such as using a keyboard and reading information on a monitor.
A Systems Engineer's workday is spent in the office or he/she may venture out to a job site depending on job requirements. When visiting a site, an Engineer must be prepared for conditions that may be unpleasant or even dangerous. The Engineer may find they are examining locations that are in poor condition in order to gather information on the project. He/she may also be exposed to general construction dangers from equipment or falling objects. Project environments can vary from pre-construction job sites to clean, air conditioned datacenters. Due to these requirements the engineer must comply with all conditions pertaining to Kratos safety programs.
