The Physician Assistant in the Alaska VA Healthcare System (AVAHS) in Fairbanks, AK will work in the Fairbanks Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC)providing outpatient care to eligible Veteran patients who present with urgent/chronic medical conditions. Provides age-specific care for young adults (age 20-40 years), middle adult (age 40-65), older adults (age 65-74), and geriatric patients (over 75) and may provide interim coverage for primary care providers during absences. The Physician Assistant will have a collaborating physician who will provide appropriate clinical oversight and consultation. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Participate in Compensation & Pension Examination Service.
Participate in Primary Care meetings.
Participate in performance improvement activities, to include joint improvement activities and initiatives with the Veterans Benefits Administration Anchorage Service Center.
Work collaboratively with the Quality Management Service to ensure processes are in place to meet standards and that supportive elements such as Periodic Performance Review and tracer activities are in place as necessary.
This position may subject the incumbent to exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The candidate must meet the following Education requirements: (1) Graduate of a PA training program, or of a surgical assistant program which is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor organizations; AND (2) A Bachelors degree from an accredited PA training program or in another health sciences related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Current and continuous certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA).
Meet the physicial requirements for this position as specified in VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 USC 7402(d).
Preferred Experience: If not licensed in the State of Alaska as a Physician Assistant (PA), must obtain licensure prior to offiicial offer and entrance on duty date. Minimum of two (2) years of practice as a PA. ACLS/BLS/PALS may be required prior to official offer and entrance on duty date.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
