Position Description:

We are looking for a Clinical Terminology SME to support a federal contract on a part time basis. This position does allow for 100% remote work.

The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert, possessing in-depth knowledge of medical vocabulary and terminology (e.g. LOINC, SNOMED, etc.), and applicable federal policies, regulations and standards. Provides domain knowledge and analysis of medical vocabulary and terminology with the ability to ascertain the use of this information supporting various health applications. Delivers consultative services around the utilization, documentation and implementation of this information in applications and in support the public health community. Participates as needed in all phases of supporting the user community for questions pertaining to the application, and its use of medical vocabulary and terminology, supporting software development as it pertains to the subject matter expertise with emphasis on the planning, analysis, testing, integration, documentation, and presentation phases. Applies principles, methods and knowledge of the functional area of capability to specific task order requirements.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

  • Support user community questions regarding public health application sharing medical vocabulary and terminology information

  • Participate in the maintenance and updating of a public health application with medical vocabulary and terminology data

  • Provide a leadership role overseeing the utilization and deployment of medical vocabulary and terminology data for use in the public health sector

  • Participate in development of messaging and vocabulary guidance documents for Case Notification and contribute to harmonization and standardization of data elements across notifiable conditions

  • Participate in the planning of future utilization of medical vocabulary and terminology information

Submit requests for new content to Standards Development Organizations (e.g., LOINC and SNOMED)

  • Interact with various internal and external CDC partners to maintain standardized vocabulary content needed for electronic messaging

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

5 years of experience with medical vocabulary and terminology expertise (e.g. LOINC, SNOMED).


Experience with HL7 and public health
