Dewberry is currently seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to act as a Technical Subject Matter Expert in our Fairfax, VA Headquarters. The Senior Water Resources Engineer will be responsible for the technical review of hydraulic and hydrologic (H&H) engineering studies, client liaison with communities involved in flood hazard risk assessment and other water resources related projects. This position will support water resource projects including flood hazard, risk analyses and production efforts in support of FEMA Flood Insurance Studies/Risk MAP projects, stormwater and Green Infrastructure related projects. Candidates will be working with Federal, state, local municipalities and other governmental agencies providing a wide variety of engineering support tasks and development of resilience solutions.
The Senior Water Resources Engineer will act as a resource and mentor for more junior staff working to constantly improve the overall quality of Dewberry deliverables. The Senior Water Resources Engineer will also be expected to be an active participant in the flood management community, working to enhance Dewberry’s reputation, and solidify our place as a market leader.

Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, modeling, floodplain mapping, stormwater and Green Infrastructure;
Act as a Technical Leader and Subject Matter Expert for Water Resources Engineering;
Mentoring more junior staff to continuously improve the quality of Dewberry’s deliverables and development of innovative solutions;
Production of Flood Insurance Studies and Risk MAP products and updating related geospatial databases;
Developing flood risk products and performing flood risk assessments;
Assisting assigned Project Manager with developing innovative and technical solutions for successful delivery of engineering projects; and,
Coordinating with the project team, project managers, clients, local communities, and other contractors to compile all data necessary to produce the most up-to-date product.
A Masters degree in Surface water modeling or similar discipline, a PhD is highly preferred.
10 - 20+ years of experience in hydraulic and hydrologic (H&H) modeling/ Water Resources engineering (preferably with FEMA National Flood Insurance Program, USACE IWR, and EPA).
A Professional Engineer license (PE)
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)
Experience with the FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program, including Flood Study Reviews preferred
Experience Mentoring Junior Engineering staff
A track record of active participation in the flood management or water resources community including published papers, presentations, and active organizational membership.
Proficiency with at least 3 of the following engineering modelling programs; FESWMS, RMA-2, FEQ, SWMM, XP-SWMM, HEC-1, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TR20, WinTR55, HY8 required.
Proficiency with MATLAB, HEC-FDA, HEC-ResSim, Water Evaluation and Planning System (WEAP), Visual Basic, is preferred.
Proficiency in MS Office software.

Experience / knowledge in geospatial programming using Python.
Experience with MATLAB, HEC-FDA, HEC-ResSim, Water Evaluation and Planning System (WEAP), Visual Basic, is preferred.
Experience developing for the ESRI platform (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcObjects, ArcSDE, Arc Engine).
Knowledge of USACE, EPA, NOAA, USGS and other Federal Agencies as it relates to Water Resources programs and activities.
Knowledge of Resilience and Sustainability as related to Water Resources.
Knowledge of Climate Change,
Knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program is preferred
Knowledge of Watershed Planning a plus
