Job Responsibilities/Department Description:
The Group Leader, Remyelination and Neuroprotection, in the Neuroinflammation and Innate Immunity / Multiple Sclerosis Cluster in the Neuroscience Research Therapeutic Area will have deep expertise in remyelination, neuroprotection and MS disease pathogenesis, be a scientific innovator, drive scientific excellence and rigor, and develop and advance cutting-edge therapeutics for demyelinating diseases. The Group Leader will manage a research team supported by multidisciplinary platforms and scientists based in the Boston area and around the globe. The Group Leader will develop and validate assays, identify and validate new targets using a variety of tools, including human genetics, human sample analyses, bioinformatics, clinical data, and preclinical in vitro and in vivo models, and implement new models and technologies. The Group Leader will maintain a scientific leadership position in the remyelination, neuroprotection and neurologic disease research communities, connecting Sanofi scientists with collaborators around the globe.
Lead a team of 4-5 colleagues, responsible for identifying novel targets and pathways to enhance remyelination and neuroprotection in the context of neurologic and neurodegenerative diseases including multiple sclerosis, connecting cutting-edge science with unmet medical need.
Advance the Neuroscience Therapeutic Area strategy by identifying new targets and advancing projects in the current pipeline. Lead scientists experienced in a range of disciplines, from molecular and cell biology, neuropharmacology, neurochemistry, electrophysiology and behavior, to develop deep mechanistic understanding of disease pathogenesis and confidence in target rationale,
Lead internally and externally in remyelination, neuroprotection and neurologic disease research, publishing cutting edge science and developing and maintaining key collaborations around the globe.
Manage collaborative relationships with project leads, key internal and external stakeholders, and with research platform leadership to resource and advance portfolio projects.
Recruit, retain and develop world-class scientific talent.
PhD in neuroscience, with postdoctoral and/or fellowship training in neuroimmunology, oligodendrocyte biology, remyelination, and/or multiple sclerosis disease pathogenesis.
Deep expertise and outstanding record of research and publications in remyelination, neuroprotection in the context of multiple sclerosis, CNS autoimmune disease and/or other neurodegenerative diseases.
2-3 years of experience leading research teams preferred.
Outstanding management, communication and interpersonal skills.
