Business Development / Account Manager



Develops the sales pipeline, coordinating with product development and account management teams, executes the Go-To-Market strategy in DACH countries

Plays a lead role in conversations with key decision makers for new or emerging product opportunities

Plays a key role in developing financial modelling and business cases for development opportunities

Develops strong relationships within industry segment to build strong value propositions and relationships

Prospects, contacts, and contracts new customers and business partners to build new gateway business with merchants, acquirers

Executes and manages the customer contract agreement process

Enhances ongoing business development relationships

Provides input for long-term growth strategies to optimize mutual profitability across business lines

The role will require a direct interaction with acquirers and merchants in coordination with MasterCard sales organization, with product expertise provided for solution engineering for the gateway service, the fraud screening service and the value added services

To work on the Pre-sell technical preparation of the customer solution

To support direct engagement and interactions with partners in the infrastructure space of ecommerce (Shopping cart providers, web designers, PSP€™s)

The role will support the lead for DACH in achieving the team goals including: responsibility for the revenues for the area within MasterCard Payment Gateway Services organization: budget, forecast and results


Package and localize product €“ the analysis of all systems and services and the formation of a value proposition based on the leverage of all assets, in line with customer and market requirements

Define local pricing of new solutions and customer specific pricing proposals €“ work with the appropriate groups to review and analyse current pricing for MasterCard Payment Gateway Services, and the determination of the price-point for new features as they are released on the platform. This includes internal sign-off from regional and MasterCard Payment Gateway Services central finance teams

Country Strategy €“ Work with country and account leads to execute an action plan against that strategy

Commercial Readiness €“ Work with IMK and Customer Delivery groups to ensure that all products, existing and forthcoming, are fully ready for commercial launch. This includes documentation, contractual, implementation and support services

Competitive Intelligence €“ The analysis of product, process, pricing and business structures to ensure that MasterCard€™s Payment Gateway Services products are competitive (or have an approved plan to achieve competitiveness).

All About You

Experience / Knowledge Required

New business sales experience with demonstrable success at managing accounts through a structured prospecting process

Experience executing and managing business development strategies for large or complex countries/regions/industry verticals

Demonstrated success introducing existing and new/emerging solutions into various MasterCard countries/regions/industry verticals

Relevant experience in the acquiring space and the gateway/ PSP business / E-Com business

Relevant commercial/sales experience in hi-tech environment (payments industry experience a definite advantage)

Experience working in a company with commitment to a metric-driven, quantitative sales process with demonstrable results

Understanding of the main drivers affecting the industry and the ability to articulate these in detail

Location: preferably Frankfurt / Germany

Technical Skills

Advanced knowledge of e-/m-commerce products and their value in B2B2C environments

Ability to translate technical product specification into sales messages for prospects

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (including presentation skills), able to work in synergy with other sales colleagues in a matrix environment

Strong customer orientation and building relationships (internally and externally)

Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

Enthusiastic, conscientious, and highly motivated

Analytical skills (P&L, financial forecasting, competitive analysis)

University degree or equivalent
