VA Central CA Health Care system, Fresno, is actively seeking an Anesthesiologist for a full-time staff physician position. The Physician will function in Surgical Service.

The Anesthesiologist is a specialty professional in the anesthetic care of our patients. This includes the administration and monitoring of anesthesia both in general and regional to classes of adult and geriatric patient in the Operating Room. The anesthesiologist will supervise the Anesthesia tech with the assistance of the CRNA's. The anesthesiologist serves as a consultant to the Medical and Surgical Services, not only in pre-surgical evaluation of patients, but in areas of expert airway adjunct, difficult I.V. access and pain control. The Anesthesiologist is available on a 24 hour basis to provide I.V. sedation consultation and/or administration for sedation through the medical center in insure the quality of care of that service. The Anesthesiologist will demonstrate the ability to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers, maintain the confidentiality of patient/employee information, and to function and work in a safe manner, as well as demonstrating an on-going commitment to and understanding of the Medical Center's Performance Improvement program. The Anesthesiologist will demonstrate the knowledge of changes associated with ageing and principles of human growth and development possess the ability to assess and interpret patient data, and the ability to identify age-specific needs such as incorporating age specific factors, and needs into patient care activities.

Surgical Department strives to maintain a safe working environment, in which we identify and address issues and concerns as they relate to safety problems within O.R.

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

  • Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
