Position Description:

CGI Federal is seeking an experienced Terrain Engineer to support its TRADOC customer at Ft. Eustis, VA. The Training Brain Operations (TBOC) provides the central management for the Training Brain. The Training Brain facilitates and acts as the principal enabler for continuous learning across all TRADOC lines of effort through acquiring, analyzing, creating, organizing, applying and transferring data, information, and knowledge in the context of current and future operations. The Training Brain quickly and accurately represents the Operational Environment (OE) using a set of dynamic, integrated analytical processes, information technologies, knowledge networks, and tailored delivery applications. It connects with, develops, and maintains real-world databases necessary to replicate the complex, competitive nature of the OE. The Training Brain seeks out, explores, and integrates technologies and methods to assist in representing environments, events, and capabilities across all Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership, Personnel, and Facilities (DOTMLPF) domains.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Basic Functions: The TBOC Systems Integration Modeling and Simulations Directorate provides 3d visualizations and dynamic scenarios replicating the operational environments encountered by Department of Defense personnel. These products are used throughout the individual, collective, and institutional training bases. The TBOC terrain analyst would be responsible for providing terrain generation support and advice on the development of terrain databases for use by the TBOC SIMS Directorate. Works with all SIMS teams to coordinate and implement terrain development activities, to include the development of project objectives, evaluation of adequacy of existing data sources, creation/modification of terrain databases. The incumbent will also provide basic geospatial analysis in support of the TBOC SIMS GIS Engineer.

Primary duties of the Terrain Engineer include:

  1. Critically examine source documents and material for applicability in producing terrain products and updating digital databases;

  2. Analyze conflicting source material, overlapping spatial conflicts, variable reliability of source data, and then resolve conflicting information and produce terrain databases that are appropriate for TBOC training and support uses.

  3. Identify requirements and implement analytical techniques necessary to solve terrain issues.

  4. Provide technical user support for all aspects of terrain data and software.

  5. Create and maintain the TBOC 3D terrain database.

  6. Use various tools to adapt and create OneSAF Terrain Files and Open flight files for use in 3D visualization tools and gaming applications.

  7. Ensures software standards are met.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

The following are required:

Bachelor's Degree AND two (2) or more years experience with GIS and terrain development tools. Additional experience may be substituted in lieu of degree requirement.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, computer literacy with Microsoft Office and at least one year of experience using ArcGIS or a similar application.

Ability to travel. Work week may include shifts and weekends.

Experience using TerraSim TerraTools and/or Presagis Terra Vista for terrain generation.

1 year experience developing Unreal, OneSAF, JCATS, or VBS2 terrain

1 year experience developing correlated simulation terrains

Knowledge of CTDB, OTF, MESs, UHRBs, and OpenFlight

Secret clearance is required. Must be eligible for TS/SCI.

Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearance requirements, US citizenship is required.

The following are desired:

Experience generating 3D models for simulation or game environments; familiarity with Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, or Presagis Creator helpful.
