The vacancy is located in Greenville, SC and may require occasional travel to the Anderson CBOC. *Incumbents at this level are fully functional as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist and are able to carry out their assigned tasks independently. DRTs at this level may have varying assignments including special and complex radiographic procedures. *Percentage may fluctuate with needs of the service. Duties include, but are not limited to: Ultrasonographer (50%): Operates independently and without direct supervision. Performs diagnostic medical ultrasound examinations covering most portions of the body including, abdomen, pelvis, superficial structures and vascular systems by utilizing high frequency sound waves in two dimensional real time, Doppler with spectral analysis and Color-Doppler modes in routines and emergent situations, during scheduled and after hours. These procedures require ingenuity and initiative in the application of non-ionizing high frequency ultrasonic waves for imaging and diagnosis of disease. Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (50%): Operates independently and without direct supervision as the technologist responsible for the performance and coordination of all diagnostic radiology examinations. These exams are performed with and without the use of contrast materials. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic studies so that proper diagnosis and treatment will be delivered.
Work Schedule: *An eight hour tour of duty primarily between the hours of 7am and 5pm, Monday-Friday and possible weekends, holiday, and/or on-call. * Tour of duty is subject to change depending on agency needs.*Functional Statement Title/#:* Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Ultrasound)/544-

Citizenship. Citizen of the United States (non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy). Certification. Must be certified in general radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology ARRT(R). English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in both written and spoken English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT) or from schools accredited by the ARRT and certification by the ARRT in radiology.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Grade Determinations: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-09 LEVEL: In addition to meeting the basic requirements listed above, all applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the federal government. Specialized experience consists of experience directly related to DRT Ultrasound and may have been acquired through operating, supervising the operation of, or instructing the operation of equipment related to Ultrasound. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical competencies and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment specific competencies designated by an asterisk(*):
- *Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures.
- Skill to demonstrate appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers.
- *Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure.
- * Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography.*
- * Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques and universal precautions.*
- Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients.
