The successful candidate will serve on a part-time basis as a physician in the specialty of Gastroenterology at the Savannah Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) and the Hinesville CBOC for the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. This position will be shared between both clinics. Employee provides comprehensive clinical services to Veterans and their families within the CBOCs. The preferred candidate

will be well trained in all aspects of gastroenterology. An interest in basic or clinical science would be welcome. Duties will include ambulatory consultation and the performance of gastroenterologic procedures. The Gastroenterologist will be under the service of Medicine and Gastroenterology at the VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC, and will have access to supportive comprehensive gastroenterology services offered there.

Work Schedule:*8:00AM - 4:30PM, Monday through Friday.*

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board certification in Gastroenterology

Physician Staff Requirements:

Staff Physician. None beyond the basic requirements. The individual must qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified the individual to perform general duties and some specialized functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
