As a Manager of IT Application Development at United Airlines, you play a key role in the definition, development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of Agile practices (with an emphasis on Scrum) within the organization. You’ll help build and contribute to an environment where continuous improvement of the development process is the focus and everyone’s common goal is to deliver outstanding software as fast as possible to our customers. You will be responsible for leading the continual Agile transformation as well as promoting accountability, transparency and best software development practices across all levels of the organization.   • Maintains transparency and openness in all communication with a focus on building trust

  • Establish and maintain strong business relationships with product stakeholders, various teams across the IT organization and upper management

  • Liaison with external teams and vendors to coordinate development or testing activities

  • Effective in providing either positive or negative feedback to team members in a way that promotes growth and development


  • Responsible for the design, development, testing and deployment of features in new and existing products leveraging techniques and practices that promote high quality

  • Responsible for maintaining and improving existing software

  • Responsible for supporting and troubleshooting existing systems to improve operational reliability and performance

  • Accountable for delivering solutions and features on time and within budget

  • Adhering to the rules and principles of Agile and the SCRUM framework to develop a backlog of user stories and successfully complete iterations as planned


  • Ability to lead by example in the delivery of solutions and features

  • Defining, prioritizing, tracking and status reporting of multiple simultaneous work assignments and product backlogs

  • Responsible for coaching, mentoring and paired development with team members as needed to facilitate growth and improvement

  • Capable of effectively leading and administratively managing multiple geographically distributed direct reports, including offshore team members, involved in analysis, design, development and testing efforts

  • 5+ years working with object-oriented languages and design patterns

  • 5+ years’ experience working with C#/.NET

  • Experience developing in multiple programming languages

  • Experience with continuous integration and actively practicing test-driven development

  • Proficiency in querying and managing SQL databases

  • Demonstrated end-to-end product ownership from inception to deployment


  • Proficiency in NoSQL data technologies

  • 2+ years’ experience with Java

  • Experience in applying functional programming


  • Willing and able to travel as needed for business required (Up to 10%)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
