The Michael E. DeBakey VAMC and the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Surgery are currently seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery Service at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Required qualifications include board certification in cardiothoracic surgery with additional training in ventricular assist device and cardiac transplant, current experience at the Associate Professor level or higher, leadership qualities and outstanding achievements in clinical service, teaching, research and administration.
The Michael E. DeBakey VAMC is the most complex level 1A facility within the VA system and has the most complex surgical service offering state of the art surgical technologies including a TAVR program. MEDVAMC serves as the acute tertiary care referral center for a large veteran population in East Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Mississippi. The cardiothoracic surgery service is the busiest in the country and offers expertise in very complex cases including aneurysm, valve repair/replacement, and high risk coronary artery bypass, ECMO and temporary ventricular assist devices. In addition, the cardiac program is nationally recognized for excellence in patient outcomes and has a track record of robust participation in clinical trials and clinical outcomes research.

Basic Requirements*: *

- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience: Board-eligible or Board Certified in Cardiothoracic.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
