The Primary Care-Mental Health Integration Psychologist for the Huntington VAMC will be assigned to the Mental Health Service Line, with primary assignment to the Primary Care-Mental Health Integration (PC-MHI) program, located within primary care. The Psychologist will function as part of a multidisciplinary primary care team and deliver brief, consultation-based services to Veterans within that setting. The focus is on general service delivery for a wide range of concerns and resolving problems within the primary care service context. Behavioral health visits are brief (generally 20--30 minutes), limited in number (1-6 visits), and are provided in the primary care practice area, structured so that the Veteran views meetings with the behavioral health provider as a routine primary care service. The PCMHI Psychologist will function within a fast-paced primary care team and can expect to consult with 8-10 patients per day with the primary goal of assisting PACT members with identification, treatment, and management of mental health and behavioral medicine conditions in the enrolled population.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide a full range of psycho-diagnostic services which include the use of psychological testing for patients within the Huntington VAMC in areas of special interest and/ or expertise.
- Perform psychological evaluations for individuals with mental health and medical disorders for the purpose of diagnostic clarification and treatment planning recommendations.
- Provide a range of psychological therapeutic interventions, including group and individual formats, with individuals with mental health and medical disorders utilizing empirically supported modalities when indicated. Services may be delivered in a face-to-face and/or tele-health format.
- Consult and serve as a resource for other professional personnel concerning the need for, evaluation of, and development of psychological services in Huntington VAMC.
- Assist in the selection, training, and supervision of staff at lower grade within assigned program area or Psychology Service.
- Prepare and teach seminars/workshops for Huntington VAMC trainees/staff on topics within interest/competency areas.
- Serve as a member of the Huntington VAMC Psychology Training Committee.
Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30 pm

- Education: Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Associate (APA). The specialty area of degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
- Internship: Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA. Exceptions: (1) new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one-year-pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirements.
- Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
- English Language Proficiency: Psychologist must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
None beyond basic requirements.
In addition to the basic requirements at the GS-11 level, at least 1 year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level.
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
Knowledge of, and ability to apply, a wide range of professional psychological theories and assessment methods to a variety of patient populations.
Ability to develop coherent treatment strategies.
Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures.
Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
Experience: In addition to the experience requirement at the GS-12 level, at least 1 additional year of experience as a psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level.
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of, and ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations.
Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.
Knowledge of clinical research literature.

a. Ability to provide supervision in areas related to behavioral health and social services provision in order to accomplish the organization goals and objectives.
b. Ability to provide fair, principled and decisive leadership for a work environment that promotes shared accountability.

Physical Requirements:The Psychologist position will require light lifting and light carrying under 15 pounds, some walking and standing limited to 1 hour throughout the day, most of the work is performed by working alone.
