The Project Engineer is responsible for participating in the research, design and technical project management activities for combustion and pneumatic power tool projects. These tools are primarily used for wood and concrete fastening applications. The Engineer will engage in product design and innovation activities aimed at creating concept tools which meet a defined set of customer driven marketing requirements by applying engineering expertise, technical creativity and problem solving skills.
ITW Construction provides a variety of fastening systems and truss products for the commercial, residential, and remodeling/renovation segments. With products manufactured at locations around the globe serving markets in North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia.
The Global Tool Unit (GTU) is a part of ITW’s Construction Segment. The GTU innovates, develops, and manufactures best-in-class Power Fastening Systems for the global construction market. Our highly differentiated tools are specified to be used in a variety of applications including wood framing, wood trim, and steel to concrete installations.

Initiate concept designs based on marketing specifications, communicate those designs to other team members and develop those designs utilizing 3D CAD
Responsible for all aspects of the design, layout, evaluation and documentation of electro-mechanical devices or system used on power fastening systems
Manage the creation and testing of concept models and prototypes to meet performance specifications and demonstrate feasibility
Utilize advanced analysis tools to optimize designs
Select and implement appropriate manufacturing processes and vendors to ensure cost-effective, robust products that achieve market success
Other duties as assigned
BS in Engineering; Mechanical or Mechatronics preferred
Master’s degree preferred
5+ years design experience in mechanical and electro-mechanical products
Experience with new product development process
Experience with project management and technical leadership
3D CAD experience required
Knowledge of computer analysis simulation FEA and/or CFD required
Combustion engine design/development experience preferred
Travel up to 10%
