The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System has an opening for several Staff Physician Hospitalists. Staff Physician Hospitalists must have Internal Medicine training and have completed a residency/fellowship program in Internal Medicine.Hospitalists with the facility must be board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine. Additionally preferred experience would include procedural experience with line placement, paracentisis, thoracentisis, and airway management.
Responsibilities will include education of medical students, residents, and fellows with the possibility of faculty appointment if an academic track is pursued. Shifts are typically 7 on-7 off but can be variable. Preference will be given to candidates with availability to participate in Nocturnist rotations.
Work Schedule: Various (This position may required to work nights, weekends,holidays and extended shifts as necessary) Candidate will be required to provide on-call duties.
Functional Statement Title: Staff Physician - Hospitalist

- Background and/or Security Investigation required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: The work requires some physical exertion including periods of walking, standing, regular and recurring bending, stooping, lifting heavy objects such as assisting patients on and off examination tables.
