The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). The IHS goal is to raise Indian health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides leadership and direction to programs and activities designed to improve health outcomes to over 1.9 million AI/AN through a system of IHS, Tribal, and Urban operated facilities and programs.
This position serves as a Coder and Clinical Data Analyst located at one of the Indian hospitals, clinics, or health centers in the Oklahoma City Area.
This Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) allows acceptance of applications throughout the year with eligible applicants being placed on the OCA register and referred for consideration when vacancies occur. The first Cut-off date for receipt/referral of applications to be considered for available vacant positions will be 11/02/16. - Accurately code diagnoses and procedures in accordance with coding guidelines.

- Formulate written and verbal queries to providers to clarify documentation discrepancies or confirm specificity.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-06: One year of experience analyzing, interpreting and abstracting data from clinical documentation and/or electronic health record and assigning correct diagnostic and procedure codes.
GS-07: One year of experience analyzing, interpreting and abstracting data from clinical documentation and/or electronic health record and reviewing, assigning and correcting diagnostic and procedure codes with little to no supervision.
GS-08: One year of experience analyzing, interpreting and abstracting data from clinical documentation and/or electronic health record and reviewing, assigning and correcting diagnostic and procedure codes with little to no supervision; checking coding conventions/clinics; development/revision of facility coding policies & procedures; coding and abstracting systems; generating incomplete chart tracking and provider deficiency reports.
Selective Factor GS-08: In order to be found qualified at the GS-8 grade level you must possess certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician based (CCS-P) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). You must provide a copy of your certification with your application.

Appointment Type: May be Permanent, Temporary, Excepted Time-Limited, or Term with tour of duty of Full-Time, Part-Time or Intermittent. The Agency has the option of extending Time-Limited and Term appointments for up to a maximum of four years. Promotion Potential: This position may have promotion potential to the GS-08 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval. Promotion to the next higher grade level is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which annual leave is earned.
This position may be covered by a Bargaining Unit depending upon location.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
