A dynamic, dedicated, and clinically skilled Physician Assistant is sought to manage comprehensive primary care services for a panel of patients in Primary Care setting in the assigned location, either in the Community Based VA Clinics and/or the hospital based Primary Care Clinics at the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA. This VA serves a total of 45,000 Veterans from South Central PA and has a full range of clinical services including an active ED, and specialists in medicine, surgery and psychiatry. The candidate is expected to be knowledgeable and experienced in general medicine/family practice as well as gender-specific health. This provider is part of a PACT team that includes a variety of professionals such nursing, psychology, social work and PharmDs who collaborate to deliver the best care possible to Veterans. Continuity of care, coordination and consultation, diagnostic tests, appropriate prescribing and patient education are all integral aspects of the provider's scope of practice.

This float position is located at the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon PA, the employee may float to any of the Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Camp Hill, York, Lancaster and Berks as needed.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm with occasional Saturday rotation

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

  • Education. Graduate of a PA training program, or of a surgical assistant program which is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor organizations AND a bachelor's degree from an accredited PA training program or in another health sciences related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

PAs on VA rolls prior to the implementation date of this standard (i.e. September 5, 2014) who do not meet the minimum academic level of a Bachelor's degree are exempted from this requirement.

  • Certification. Current and continuous certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required for employment in VHA. PAs on VA rolls prior to March 12, 1993 who are not NCCPA certified remain exempt from the NCCPA certification requirement. However, a PA who subsequently became or becomes certified is no longer exempt and must maintain certification as a condition of employment.

  • English Language Proficiency. PAs appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).

Preferred Experience: Clinical experience in dermatology and/or orthopedics.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; Light carrying, under 15 pounds; Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking 6-8 hours; Standing 6-8 hours; Both legs required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Both eyes required; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Hearing (aid permitted); and mental and emotional stability required.
