Examples of Work
Conducts safety inspections of facilities to identify hazardous conditions and prepares inspection reports. Reviews accident and injury reports; investigates accidents and prepares recommendations to correct unsafe conditions. Advises management, supervisors and employees of safety hazards and problems and recommends corrective action. Conducts safety training and meetings to promote safety. Assists in the preparation of training materials and training programs. Interprets safety laws, rules and regulations; prepares related reports.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in industrial engineering and experience in safety investigation OR equivalent education and experience. Certification in various safety courses may be required.
PREFERRED: Bilingual skills in English/Spanish are desired and assessed.
OTHER: Must have a valid driver's license. Transcripts required prior to appointment. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam and, at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: principles and techniques of accident prevention; the application of industrial safety devices; federal, state and local safety laws, rules and regulations; basic safety courses; fire codes and fire prevention methods, mechanical, electrical and chemical safety; inspection procedures. Ability to: analyze data and recommend corrective action; instruct classes and present information; communicate orally and in writing; interpret laws, rules and regulations.
